Travelling as a woman may cause worries from your families and friends. All you have to do is to prove that you can safely travel. You must follow these guidelines:
- Always be aware of your surroundings. Stay with a group rather than walking alone.
- Let your bag stay close to you. Loose bags can be a target of robbery and snatching.
- Walk confidently but be sober. Be watchful of the people you meet and the crowd that you are into.
- Wear casually. Blend with local women with the way your dress and don't try to stand out or look too attractive.
- As much as possible, limit wearing jewelries. It attracts robbers.
- Bring cellphones with one-number dial of your friends or family, flashlights, medicines and ready to eat food. You may also want to bring subtle defensive items like ballpens or police hotline.
- Be choosy when you talk to strangers but don't be snobbish or hostile.
Before you travel, learn about the place so you will know how to blend and communicate well.
