Tips for First Time International Travelers

First time international travel can be an intimidating occasion. Here are some tips to help first time travelers and those that are travelling to a foreign country for the first time:

Find Out About the Country – When you are travelling to a foreign country for the first time, learn as much about the country before leaving for it. You should learn about the culture and the local customs. A rudimentary knowledge of the language may be helpful as well. A phrasebook will be helpful too.
Get The Local Currency – Exchange your money for the local currency as soon as you arrive. Some airports will provide this service. Hotels and local banks will usually do it too. Most ATMs will also accept USA debit or credit cards.
Maps –Arm yourself with a map or a GPS gadget. This will help you find your way around a new place.
Listen and Ask – Listen to the locals talk, if you find someone talking in English or in a language you understand, you can approach them for assistance. When doing this, you also need to be concerned about the importance of personal space.
