Alexandria is a city in the Commonwealth of Virginia, United States of America. It is the seventh highest income and largest independent city in the state. The historic area of Alexandria is referred to as Old Town. It draws a crowd of tourists and people who are seeking nightlife with its concentration of fine restaurants, antique shops, high-end boutiques and theaters.
Some of the notable areas to visit in the Old Town district of Alexandria include the George Washing Masonic Memorial which was built and design by the Freemasons to resemble the Lighthouse in Alexandra, Egypt. Other buildings also include the Lee-Fendall House, the Torpedo Factory Art Center, the Christ Church Alexandria, the Carlyle House and the Cameron Street. Outside of Old Tow, there is also the Alexandria Black History Museum and the Fort Ward, which is one of the best preserved Union forts during the American Civil War.
There are several interesting tours that one can take part in Alexandria including a leisurely stroll in side streets of the Old Town, the Alexandria Colonial Tours and the Doggie Happy Hour.
