Amarillo is a city located in the state of Texas, in the United States. It is deemed as the largest city in the Texas panhandle, with a population of 184,941. With its small town charm and big city lifestyle, the city is one of the favorite urban areas in the whole of Texas.

"Amarillo" is a Spanish word, meaning 'yellow;' the city is then known as, "The Yellow Rose of Texas" because of this. At one point in history, Amarillo had also become known as, "The Helium Capital of the World" for its large helium deposit in its Texan fields, discovered in the 1920s. In recent years, however, the city has become known as a prime location for the meat industry, as it now hosts one of the largest meat-packing companies in the country, Tyson Foods. The company is also the city's major employer.

Major attractions in the city include the Palo Duro Canyon Park, the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, the Don Harrington Discovery Center and the Kawahidi Indian Dancers.

Oprah Winfrey hosted her popular talk show in Amarillo Little Theater for several months. It was a temporary relocation prompted by an unsuccessful civil case filed against her by Amarillo cattlemen, with regard to comments in her show linking mad cow disease to American beef.
