Officially known as the Municipality of Anchorage or MOA, Anchorage is considered a consolidated city-borough in the US state of Alaska. It has an estimated municipal population of 279, 671 as of 2007. Anchorage is Alaska's largest city and is the only city that has been named All-America City four times by the National Civic League.

Anchorage was established in the year 1914 as a railroad construction port for the Alaska Railroad. On November 23, 1920, Anchorage was incorporated with the city's economy centering on the railroad. The city further grew during the 1950s when air transportation and the military became important. In 1968, oil was discovered in Prudhoe Bay, resulting in an oil boom in Anchorage. Anchorage expanded, merging with Eagle River, Girdwood, Glen Alps and other communities to be known collectively as the Municipality of Anchorage. Now, Anchorage continues to grow with many capital projects and beautification campaigns in place.

Many tourists are charmed by Anchorage since it is embraced by six mountain ranges and warmed by a maritime climate making the city alive all year long. In the summer, the city is adorned with flowers, live music, and Wild Salmon on Parade sculptures. During winter, the city is decorated with thousands of lights exuding the many exciting activities for the cold season.
