Ann Arbor is a city in the state of Michigan in the United States. The population of 114,024 is mostly comprised of university or college students as the University of Michigan is based in the city. Ann Arbor highly benefits from being the location of the university, as the institution employs around 38,000 workers in its roster. The university lends the city a fervent intellectual atmosphere, as well as attracts companies with its research and development funding.
Founded in 1824 by John Allen and Elisha Rumsey, who were land speculators, the town is said to have derived its name from a combination of each of their spouses' names.
With the atmosphere of a college town, it is no surprise that the major events in the city are connected with academics; the Ann Arbor Book Festival and the Ann Arbor Arts Fair draws several thousand tourists to the city every year.
Ann Arbor is also popularly called the "Tree Town" for its lush parks residential areas being dotted with trees.
