Atlanta is the capital of the US state of Georgia and it is also the largest city in the state. The city's metropolitan area is one of the fastest growing areas in the United States since 2000. Residents of the city are known as Atlantans. The city's skyline features mid-rise and high-rise buildings that are modern and post-modernist in design. The tallest building in the city is the Bank of America Plaza, which is also the 30th tallest building in the entire world and the tallest building in the US outside of New York and Chicago. Professional sports teams that hail from Atlanta include the Atlanta Braves and the Atlanta Falcons.

Dubbed as the 'New South', Atlanta went against the trend of preserving historic Old South architecture as practiced by cities such as Savanna, New Orleans and Charleston. The Georgia Aquarium, the world's largest indoor aquarium, is one of Atlanta's most popular tourist spots. The World of Coca Cola stands adjacent to the Aquarium and has been receiving visitors since May 2007. Museums also pepper Atlanta's landmark, these include the Cyclorama and Civil War Museum. One of the most popular landmarks in Atlanta is the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site.
