Aurora is a city located in the state of Colorado. Founded in the 1890s during the silver boom, the city was initially named "Fletcher" after its Canadian developer, Donald Fletcher. Later, however, the town was renamed as "Aurora" after the goddess of dawn in Roman mythology; it was incorporated in 1907.

The amazing resilience of Aurora residents was demonstrated in the 1995, when the Fitzsimons Army Medical Center was to be closed, and the city consequently faced the loss of jobs and income. Aurora residents exerted effort to redevelop the large base into the Colorado University Health Medical Center, which opened in 1997.

Manufacturing companies include telecommunications and aerospace companies as well as healthcare companies and customer service centers that are affiliated with big corporations.

In a population of 303, 582, the city of Aurora sustains a racial makeup that is predominantly white. African-Americans, Native Americans, as well as Asians and Latinos, comprise a significant percentage in the population.
