Avalon is a borough of the Cape May County in the US state of New Jersey. It was incorporated in 1892 and is part of the Ocean City Metropolitan Area. As of the 2007 census estimate, the area has a population of 2,103 people. The number of people in the city, however, swells during the summer months.
The borough is perhaps most well known for its location on the Jersey shore. The borough's motto states 'Cooler by a Mile' because of its location just a mile farther out than other barrier island areas. In 2008, the area was ranked as one of the top 10 beaches in the New Jersey area. A seasonal trolley service serves the area and a New Jersey Transit line serves the area as well. Avalon Boulevard connects US 9 and the Garden State Parkway to the Oceanfront.
An annual event that attracts people to Avalon is the Floatilla that was held since 1999.
