Bali is an island paradise located in Indonesia. It lies between the islands of Java and Lombok. The island population of 3,151,000 people mostly practices Balinese Hinduism, although a significant percentage also practices Islam.

Bali is renowned across the world for being a prime tourist destination that showcases the various genres of Balinese art, dances, sculpture, painting, metalworking and music. Drawing millions of tourists every year, Bali is one of Indonesia's most significant islands.

It was in 1597 when the Dutch first visited Bali; but it was a lot later, in 1908, that the foreigners established their rule over the island. It became part of Indonesia after the Second World War.

Balinese people are known for being exceptional artists, both in performance arts and in craft making. For instance, carving wood into intricate patterns, molding metals into delicate artwork, and embroidering silk and cotton clothing are just among the many talents of the Balinese.
