Bangalore is known as the 'Silicon Valley' of India, as it is the center of the Information Technology (IT) industry in the whole of Asia. Over a hundred companies from all parts of the world, from USA's Microsoft to South Korea's Samsung, hold offices in the city. These companies boost the economy of India, contributing a hefty 33%, amounting to US$ 29 Billion, to IT exports. Aside from IT, the Biotechnology industry is also well-established in the city.
The capital of the Karnataka, Bangalore ranks third among the most populated cities in India. It is located in the Southeastern region of the state on the Deccan Plateau, 1000 meters above sea level. Aside from its popularity as the IT capital of Asia, Bangalore is also known as "The Garden City," owing to the various construction projects by the government in the 1920s that aimed to beautify the city.
Bangalore also boasts of a fervent intellectual atmosphere as it is the host city of several well-recognized colleges and significant research institutions in India. A city of multiple dimensions, Bangalore's juxtaposition of modern infrastructure and historical sites gives the city a sense of economic importance, but without losing the classy charm of the olden days.
