About Beijing
Beijing or Jing for short is China's political, economic, cultural and educational center. It is also the nation's most important center for international trade and communications. Beijing is the capital city of the People's Republic of China is one of the four municipalities of the PRC. It is also considered as one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China. It is the second largest city in China, second to Shanghai.

Beijing was declared the capital city of China by King Wu in 1057 BC. It has been through many names such as Ji, Zhongdu and Dadu before finally settling with Beijing. Beijing was also formerly known as Peking by the Western world. Due to Beijing's initiative for economic and market reforms under the later Deng Xiaoping, the city has now become a modern and international city.

Beijing is now home to 11 million people. It boasts of 7,300 cultural relics and historical sites as well as more than 200 scenic spots such as the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, Summer Palace and Temple of Heaven alongside the city's impressive modern skyline. In 2008, Beijing hosted the 2008 Olympics.
