About Bintan Island
Bintan Island is a popular tourist spot located in the country of Indonesia, in Southeast Asia. It is also known by name, "Negeri Segantang Lada." Part of the Riau Islands province, the island measures 1,866 square kilometers. Its capital is the city of Tanjung Pinang.

Being very near to Singapore with only forty kilometers, Bintan Island is a favorite spot among tourists who want a quick getaway from the frenzied buzz of city life. It takes only forty-five (45) minutes to get to the island from the Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal in Singapore.

The island had a rich and turbulent political history, being the sanctuary of Sultan Mahmud, the leader of the fallen Malacca Sultanate in the 1500s. The Sultan established his own base in the island. From the 17th until the 19th century, the island was the capital of the Johor Sultanate. However, Bintan was eventually overshadowed in importance by Singapore and by Batam Island.

Singapore developed Bintan Island into 'Bintan Resort,' as part of its agreement with the Indonesian government. Tourists may enjoy several fun activities like jet skiing, snorkeling, windsurfing, scuba diving, and golf.
