Bogata is the capital of Colombia and is formally known as Bogata, D. C. (District Capital). It is the most populous city in Colombia with a population Census of more than 6.7 million inhabitants. With an elevation of 2,640 meters, Bogata is the third highest major city in the world behind La Paz and Quinto. Bogota is nicknamed 'The Athens of South America' because of the number of accomplished universities and libraries found within the city.

As Colombia's largest economic center, it is also one of the most important cities in all of South America. Most of Colombia's major companies have their headquarters in Bogota and the city also house's Colombia's Stock Exchange. The base of the country's economy lies with financial institutions and is the home of international banks such as the Banco de la Republica. Printing, publishing, and telecommunications are also major industries in the city.

Culturally rich, the city is the home of the Ibero-American Theatre Festival, which is the biggest festival of theatre in the world. It is also the home of the Neusa Park, the Bogota Botanical Gardens as well as the impressive Primary Cathedral. Bogota's sister cities include Milan, Caracas, Miami, Mexico City, New Mumbai, Beirut, Torino, Madrid, Seoul, Guayaquil, and London.
