Boksburg is a city located somewhere on the East Rand in Gauteng, South Africa. The city is now a part of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, which pretty much includes a huge part of East Rand. The name "Boksburg" was taken from the name of South Africa's State Secretary W.Eduard Bok. One of the biggest events in the city was in 1887, during which gold was discovered in the city.
Boksburg was set up to serve the gold mines peppering the city. One of the main features of the city is the Boksburg Lake. Initially, it was the Mining Commissioner Montague White's project which he made a large dam that stood empty for years. Many called the empty dam as White's Folly until a flash flood proved detractors wrong. The dam became the Boksburg Lake, and is now surrounded by terraces, trees, and scenic lawns.
To date, Boksburg has established itself as one of the important towns that produce gold all over Witwatersrand.
