About Bossier City
Bossier City is located in Bossier Parish in the US state of Louisiana. The 2000 census revealed that the city had a population of 56,461 people. It is closely linked with its sister city Shreveport, which is larger and is located on the banks of the Red River. Despite sharing a name with the Bossier Parish, the city is not the Parish seat. The seat, instead, is the city of Benton where the parish courthouse is located. The city was incorporated in 1907.

The city was originally known as Bennet's Bluff and was named after businessman William Bennet who together with partner and his wife owned a plantation near the Red River. Later on the village was renamed Cane City and a short while before its incorporation it was again renamed and called Bossier City. Since its foundation, Bossier City continued to become a city of growth. When petroleum crude oil was discovered in 1908, the city was thrust into the heart of the nationwide Oil Boom.

The schools in the city are zoned under the Bossier Parish Schools. It has a collection of several public schools that include both secondary and elementary schools.

Gambling is an important part of the Bossier City economy. Several casinos are located along the banks of the Red River and horse racing is also practiced at the Harrah's Louisiana Downs. The city is home to several professional sports teams including the Bossier Shreveport Battle Wings and the Bossier Shreveport Mudbugs. Athletic events in the city are held in the Century Tel Center.
