Breckenridge is a historic town in Colorado, United States of America, has a total land area of 4.9 square miles and 2926 meters above sea level. In 1859, the town was formally created by General George E. Spencer. He chose the name "Breckinridge" after John C. Breckinridge, US Vice President of that time.
It is the largest historic district in Colorado and it features a wide variety of culture, shops, activities, attractions and adventures. Breckenridge is popular in skiing, dog sledding and ice skating and fly-fishing during winter. During summer, it attracts adventurers with hiking trails, wildflowers, mountain biking, mine tours and hot air balloon rides. Historical tours and museum visits are also available such as in Barney Ford and Breckenridge Heritage Alliance.
The climate Breckenridge is considered to be high-alpine with the tree line ending at 11,500 feet. During winter, the temperatures average from 28 degrees daytime and 15 degrees at night time. The summer temperatures range from 70 to 80 degrees daytime and 50 degrees at night time. The average days of sunshine per year are 300.
