Brisbane is the state capital of Queensland in Australia and is also considered as its most populous city in the area. It also ranks third as the most populous city in all of Australia just behind its southern rivals, Melbourne and Sydney. Brisbane is located in the Brisbane River and was named after the Governor of New South Wales, Sir Thomas Brisbane.
Brisbane has a rich live music scene that covers both classical and popular music. Prominent performance art groups like the Queensland Performing Arts Center, the Queensland Ballet, the Queensland Theater Company and the Opera Queensland perform regularly in different venues in the city.
There are a number of major cultural events in the city including the Royal Queensland Show, Ekka which is held every August and the River festival that is held every year on the month of September. Warana, which is similar to Melbourne's Moomba festival is also held every September.
Popular tourist attractions in Brisbane include the Roma Street parkland, South Bank Parklands, the Brisbane Forest Park, the City Botanic Gardens and the Portside Wharf.
