About Brooklyn
Brooklyn named after the Dutch town "Breuckelen", is the most populous borough of New York City with an estimated population of 2.5 million. It has a land area of 71 square miles, considered the second largest in NY, located at the western end of Long Island.

The settlement in Brooklyn began in the 17th century by the Dutch people in the small town on the East River Shore of Long Island. They named the town Breuckelen, now known as Brooklyn, that little town developed into a sizable city. In 1898, it was consolidated with the following counties: the Manhattan, the Bronx, the Queens and the Staten Island to form the modern city New York.

After its consolidation in the 19th century, Brooklyn has been administered by the NYC Charter that provides for a strong mayor-council system and this centralized government became responsible for its public education, correctional institutions, libraries, public security, recreational amenities, health and sanitation, water supply and welfare services. Almost 69.7% of registered voters in Brooklyn are Democrats. This Party holds the majority of its public offices.

Brooklyn has plenty of tourist attractions such as the Coney Island, Brooklyn Bridge, Prospect Park, Williamsburg, Century 21 Department Store, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, NY Transit museum, Brooklyn Museum of Art and Brooklyn Bridge Park.
