About Calgary
Calgary, located in Alberta, is the largest city of that Canadian province. It is located in Alberta's Parkland region and has a population of over 1 million. The city borders Edmonton and the populated area between the two cities is referred to as the Calagary-Edmonton Corridor. It is well known as a winter sports destination as well as for its ecotourism. Several nicknames are attributed to the city; these include Cowtown, Stampede City, The Heart of the New West, The Sandstone City, and the Heart of Alberta.

Tourism in Calgary is mostly driven by winter sports. It is home to several mountain resorts and was the first Canadian city to host the Winter Olympics in 1988. The University of Calgary constructed one of the world's fastest long track speed skating ice rinks to accommodate the 1988 Winter Games. The city is also the host of several annual festivals including the Calgary Stampede, the Lilac Festival, the Folk Music Festival, Carifest, and the Calgary International Spoken Word Festival.

Recent years have seen the rise of Calgary's petroleum industry. High-tech industries and agriculture are also a major parts of the city's economy. The city is also renowned as one of the cleanest cities in the world.
