Canmore is a town located in Alberta, Canada in the Bow Valley. It has a permanent population of 12,005 as reported by the 2008 census. It sits to the east of the famed Banff National Park and is about 70 miles (110km) west of Calgary. Canmore's mountain setting is noted from The three peaks known as the Three Sisters. The peaks are also depicted in the town's flag and its official logo.
Annual events that attract local and foreign tourists to Canmore include the Canmore Ice Climbing Festival; the '24 Hours of Adrenaline', which is a mountain bike race that's held in various areas in North America, but has annual stops in the town; the Rocky Mountain Ski Challenge, which is co-presented by CMAGS and APEGGA. Another annual event is the Canmore Bar Crawl, which requires participants to visit every bar in the town and have at least one pint before moving on to the next one. The cycle is repeated until only 1 person is left standing. The competition was won 6 years in a row by Sarah McIntosh, known as the 'Iron Liver'.
The city has one museum and that's the Canmore Museum of Geoscience Centre. It acts as the custodian of the town's heritage after it entered a Fee for Service Agreement with the Town of Canmore. It works to maintain and preserve artifacts and archives. Festivals held in Canmore include the Canmore Miner's Day Reunion, the Canmore Folk Music Festival, Mozart on the Mountain, the Canmore Highland Games and the Vic Lewis International Band Festival.
