About Casablanca
Casablanca is the coastal city capital of the Greater Casablanca region in Western Morocco, located on the Atlantic Ocean. It occupies the site of the ancient city of Anfa and is the largest city of Morocco as well as its chief port.

The area of Casablanca was once part of Spain and Portugal until it was eventually completely abandoned by European Colonists following an earthquake in 1755 which destroyed most of the town. It was gradually rebuilt by the Moroccan sultan, and renamed Dar al-Bayda, which remains the Arabic name today. Dar al-Bayda is Arabic for Casa Branca or Casa Blanca in 1770.

Casablanca is considered the economic capital of Morocco because it is the heart of Moroccan business; the political capital is Rabat. It is also the primary naval base for the Royal Moroccan Navy.

The world's largest mosque, Hassan II, is Casablanca's famous landmark which is visible at great distance.

The 1942 popular classic film 'Casablanca' starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman was set in Casablanca and the city was also featured in other works of fiction.
