Charlotte Amalie is the capital and the largest city of the US Virgin Islands; it located on the Santo Thomas Island. It was named after the queen consort of Denmark's King Christian V, Charlotte Amalie of Hesse-Kassel. The city was so old that its history is laced with myths of pirates and other lore. It is said that Black Beard, the Pirate once inhabited or visited the early civilization. Thus, among its historical attractions is Black Beard Castle.

Charlotte Amalie was once an area frequented and inhabited by pirates due to its deep water harbor and lush villages. These days, the city is a world-famous cruise ship port of call. The city is also known for having the second oldest synagogue in the whole of the Western Hemisphere.
