Charlottetown is a city located in Prince Edward Island, Canada; it is the provincial capital of the island. The city is known as the "Birthplace of the Confederation". The city was named after the queen consort of King George III, Charlotte. The city is a highly urbanized, modern city but farmlands can still be found in the outskirts of the city.
The downtown area in Charlottetown includes the historic five hundred lots surveyed by Captain Samuel Holland in his capacity as Surveyor General of Quebec, the Hillsborough River, and the waterfront opposite the harbor. Several commercial, financial, business, and residential establishments comprise the areas around downtown.
Points of interest in Charlottetown include the Province House, Beaconsfield Historic House, Charlottetown Boardwalk, the Founder's Hall - Canada's Birthplace Pavilion, and the Confederation Centre of the Arts.
