Cologne is the 4th largest city in Germany that lies on the River Rhyme. It is the biggest city both in the German Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia and within the Rhine-Ruhr Metropolitan Area. It is also one of the major European cities with more than ten million residents. It is one of the oldest cities in Germany. Also, it is the home of the famous Cologne Cathedral, the seat of the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Cologne and the University of Cologne which is one of the Europe's oldest universities.

This city is a major cultural center of the Rhineland and it has more than 30 museums and hundreds of galleries. Cologne is also recognized for its annual celebration of Cologne Carnival, a reggae summer festival. Moreover, the city also hosts the Cologne Comedy Festival, the largest comedy festival in mainland Europe.
