Del Mar is a city located in San Diego County of California, United States. Del Mar means "by the sea" or "of the sea" in Spanish, mainly because of its location close to the Pacific Ocean. One of the big events Del Mar hosts is the San Diego County Fair, which is hosted every summer at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. In addition, Del Mar is noted as one of the last few locations where the Torrey Pine tree grows. This pine is the rarest pine the United States has, with only two populations existing of this endangered species, the Pinus torreyana.
The racial make up of Del Mar is diverse, with a number of Asians, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and other races. Other attractions found in Del Mar include surfing lessons offered by the Willis brothers, Torrey Pines State Beach, Del Mar Racetrack, and the Powerhouse Community Center. Some of Del Mar's notable residents include Burt Bacharach, Steve Perry, Nate Kaeding, and Rachael Flatt.
