Des Moines is a city located in Iowa, USA. It is the capital city and serves as the seat of Polk County. The largest city in the state, Des Moines serves as the commercial, transportation and manufacturing center where primary goods produced in the state include printed materials, farm equipment, processed food, and tires. The city is also known as a leading insurance center, being home to numerous insurance companies.

There are several academic institutions in the Des Moines area, including the Drake University, the Grand View College, the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences, as well as a community college.

The Living History Farms, a natural attraction that features working pioneer farm of the 1840s and 1900s, is a major tourist destination.
