About Destin
Destin is located in the Okaloosa County on the Emerald Coast of Florida. It has been nicknamed as 'The World's Luckiest Fishing Village' and it also claims to have the largest fishing vessel fleet in the entire state. It is known for its white sand beaches and emerald colored waters. Destin was originated as a fishing village, but it has also diversified to become one of the most popular tourist spots in the United States. A 2004 Census lists Destin's population as 12,162.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection estimates that over 80% of the 4.5 million annual visitors to the Emerald Coast visit Destin. The sand on the Emerald Coast is one of the whitest sands in the world and it is said to have originated from the Appalachian Mountains. It is unique as it is made of finely ground quarts that it gives it the appearance of finely ground sugar.

Other than the beaches, Destin tourists also visit attractions such as water and adventure parks. The Destin Commons, an open air market is also a popular shopping destination among tourists. Events also attract tourists to Destin and one of the city's major annual events is the Destin Fishing Rodeo and the Destin Seafood Festival, which have been held since 1948.

Notable Destin residents include Nanny Wuerffel and Kevin Greene of the NFL. As well as Nick Wheeler and Tyson Ritter who are members of the band The All-American Rejects. Another musician that originated from Destin is bassist Dave Hope who plays for the band Kansas.
