El Portal, a small unincorporated community, is located in Mariposa County, California, United States along the State Route 140 by the Merced River on the boundary of Yosemite National Park. It is a home for 75 mountain summits and peaks. It is also partly under the administrative jurisdiction of the Yosemite National Park, but being outside of the park, El Portal is not under strict Park limitations.
In the spring, California Poppies are everywhere. From April to August, wildflowers bloom in Yosemite National Park. The Hite Cove Trail is popular for seeing the bloom of different wildflowers. It was said that fifty to sixty varieties of colorful wildflowers are seen or are growing along the trail.
Because of its location, El Portal is famous to tourists for doing outdoor activities such as white water rafting, fishing, camping along the Merced River, and hiking to trails. People who want to be one with nature are very much attracted to the place.
