El Segundo is a home for Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Kings practice facility. It is a city in Los Angeles County, California on the Santa Monica Bay. The city was named "el segundo" because it was the site of "the second" Standard Oil refinery now known as Chevron Refinery in the West Coast, when the oil company bought 840 acres of farm land in 1911. This became the most prominent feature of the town, the massive oil refinery which borders the town center.
Last 2006, El Segundo was hailed as the most business friendly city in LA county by Eddy Awards. The town was transformed from a "blue-collar" company town to a "corporate town" where the tax base relies on a non-resident working population.
El Segundo is a home to many facilities of large aerospace companies such as Boeing, Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, SpaceX and The Aerospace Corporation. The Los Angeles Air Force Base and the Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) are also found in the city. Moreover, Mattel, DirecTV, Computer Sciences Corporation, International Rectifier, and Internet Brands companies are found in El Segundo. With these various industries, it offers products that include navigation and computer systems, aircraft parts, office machines, telephone apparatus, and refined oil.
