Fort Myers is located on the Gulf Coast of Florida. In 1821, Florida became a territory of US and the settlers asked for protection from the natives. Fort Myers was then built named after Colonel Abraham C. Myers. In 1858, the fort was abandoned and reoccupied by the Federal Troops. A skirmish between Northern and Southern troops occurred. The fort was disassembled and later became downtown Fort Myers.
Fort Myers became a home to famous inventor Thomas Edison together with his friend Henry Ford of the Ford Motor Company. Their estates are now a major attraction together with the Fort Myer beach. Also, two Major League Baseball teams, the Boston Red Sox and the Minnesota Twins, make Fort Myers their spring-training homes.
Fort Myers has an ideal all year round weather making events regular. There is the annual North Myers Cracker Festival, Sand sculpting Festival, and the Latin Jazz Festival. It also is not behind when it comes museum and educational activities, entertainments like restaurants and nightlife hubs, outdoor activities like fishing and shelling.
Fort Myers is also popular for its featured Imaginarium, Eastwood Golf Course, Fort Myers Country Club, Harborside Event Center, Historical Museum, Yacht Basin, Farmer's Market, Skate Park, and Skatium.
