
Fresno is a city in California, USA; being the country seat of the Fresno Country and the largest inland city in the state. It is located in the Central California between Los Angeles and San Francisco. It had an estimated total population of 490,847 as of January 27, 2009.
The population makes the fifth largest city in California. It is located mainly in San Joaquin Valley in the Central Valley at about 200 miles north of Los Angeles and about 170 miles from the south of the state capital known as Sacramento.
The city is the center for cultural and economic welfare of the Fresno Clovis metropolitan Area. It is considered as the largest metropolitan area in the Central Valley with a population 899, 348 next to Sacramento. The name Fresno is derived from the Spanish language word for the Ash tree and an Ash leaf is featured on its flag.
