Galway is a city in the Republic of Ireland and the only city in one of Ireland's provinces, the Connacht. Galway is considered the fourth largest city in the country and it is situated in the west coast of the nation. It is also referred to as the City of Galway of Cathair na Gaillimhe in Irish and also as the City of Tribes. Galway takes its name from the River Corrib which is also known as the Gaillimh River.

Galway is a primary tourist center in the country and is the gateway to the most popular scenic areas of Ireland. It also has a bustling night life and may be short on conventional tourist attractions such as museums but the numerous cafes and pubs, coupled by the charming pedestrian streets still draw a number of visitors each year.

Galway is also the home of the Spanish Arch which is one of the few remaining parts of the area's ancient defenses.
