
Gatineau is a city located in the western part of Quebec, Canada. It sits on the northern bank of the Ottawa River and it is immediately across from Ottawa, Ontario. It is located within the boundaries of the country's National Capital Region. Gatineau and the city of Ottawa comprise one Census Metropolitan Area. The city's motto states: Fortunae Meae, Multorum Faber.
Several key provincial and governmental offices are located in the city and due to its proximity with the country's capital, Gatineau it also is home to several important business establishments. Downtown Gatineau is peppered with massive office towers that house civil servants and offices. The largest of these towers is the Place du Portage and the Terrasses de la Chaudiere. They occupy part of the downtown area in Gatineau.
The Canadian Museum of Civilization is located in the city. It, together with the Casino de Lac Leamy are two of the major tourist attractions in the city.
