About Girdwood
Girdwood is situated in south-central Alaska with a total population of about 2,000 friendly people that lies in a small valley in the Chugach Mountains. It was founded as a gold mining town at the turn of the century.

The place is originally named Glaciers city and is surrounded by no less than seven permanent glaciers. However, it was renamed for Irish immigrant and linen merchant. In 1915, railroad construction begun and late in 1960, the first chairlift and a day lodge was built. The place is composed of abundant activities during summer and winter. The weather temperature allows for these activities year round.

Frequent travelers and visitors in this place enjoy hiking, rafting, fishing, kayaking, rock climbing during, skiing and snowboarding in Mount Alyeska throughout the winter months. There is also an abundance of cross country trails with in the valley in Moose meadows near Girdwood's Hotel in Alyeska.
