This suburb of Denver, the historic City of Golden is a Home Rule Municipality located at the Jefferson County, Colorado, United States. The name Golden came from a notable person, Thomas L. Golden. This city is north of I-70 and included in the Denver metropolitan area. Chocolate lovers should also note that this is the place where Jolly Rancher, a candy bought out by the Hershey Foods Corporation was born.
It is one of the gold rush towns, and the presence of gold fields made it a center of economic industry. The biggest site brewery, the Coors Brewery is found here as well as the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. With a population of about 18,000 people businesses flourish.
Golden adopted a home rule municipality form of statutory government in Colorado. Its government is a city council/city manager type of leadership. Forms of readable media published in Golden are the Golden Transcript which started in 1866 and The Oredigger.
