In the U.S state of North Dakota, Grand Forks is the largest city and the country's seat of Grand Forks Country. It has an estimated total population of 51, 740 and an estimated metropolitan population of 97, 691 in early 2007 within the month of July. Along with its twin city is East Grand Forks, Minnesota. Grand Forks forms the center of metropolitan statistical area which is known as the grand Cities.
The city is prone to flooding and was struck by the devastating Red River Flood in the year 1997 in the flat region, known as the Red River Valley. Grand Forks was founded in the year 1870 by captain Alexander Griggs and assimilated on February 22, 1881.
The city's name was derived from the location at the fork of the Red and Red Lake River. The city is dependent on local agriculture and the city's economy encompasses in higher quality education, defense, healthcare, and manufacturing, food processing and scientific studies.
