Grand Rapids is a city that is located in Michigan, United States. It is known as the county seat of Michigan's Kent County as well as the second largest city in the said state. It is also one of the main cities of West Michigan.

Around 2,000 years ago, most of the habitants of the city were associated with Hopewell culture. These people occupied the area near Grand River valley, and around A.D. 1700, Ottawa Indians migrated towards the area where they founded several villages that lined the Grand River.

It was in the 19th century that Grand Rapids was first settled by Europeans. These settlers were mainly missionaries as well as fur traders, and they managed to live peaceably together with the Ottawa Indians. As a result, much trade between the two groups happened, exchanging textile goods and metal for fur pelts the Indians had in abundance.

Today, Grand Rapids is far from the old city that it was years before. Much improvement and development has been made that has placed the city on top compared to other neighboring localities.
