Gulf Shores is a coastal city located in the state of Alabama, USA, particularly in Baldwin County. It is a city primarily developed to cater to local and foreign tourists with its beachfront hotels, high-end condos and vacation houses.
Alabama has only two seaside resort cities, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Unlike the Florida resorts which cater to people from regions all over the United States, Gulf Shores is flooded by tourists from Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana, its large expanse of sandy white beach drawing tourists from nearby regions.
Tourists who visit Gulf Shores access the area through the Jack Edwards Airport, located on Highway 59, in the northern side of town.
In 2006, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach were devastated by Hurricane Ivan, but an intricate well-planned restoration program revived the resort cities by 2007, prompting a building boom that boasts of high-end condominiums that cost as much as $250,000.
