Hamburg a German city, that ranks as the second largest city in the said country. With its size, it is also known as the most populated city that is not a capital city of the European Union. It is considered home to approximately 1.8 million people, while the metropolitan area has reached more or less 4.3 million people living there. With everything big, even Hamburg's port ranks as the second-largest port in all over Europe, and ranks ninth in the whole world.
Hamburg is not exactly the city's official name. In fact, its full name is the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, which refers to a part of the city's history of once being a part of the Hanseatic League during the medieval times. It is also a nod to the fact that Hamburg is a city-state, and a part of Germany's sixteen federal states.
Apart from its size, Hamburg is also known as a major hub in terms of transportation throughout northern Germany. Plus, it has also evolved into being an industrial and media center especially with all the factories it has all over the city.
