Hialeah is a city in Florida, USA - it belongs to the Miami-Dade County. The city's name is derived from Muskogee terms "hili" for "pretty" and "haiyakpo" for "pretty" to make "pretty prairie". The city might also mean "upland prairie" in Seminole. Either way, the city is named a prairie because of its location in one located between the Everglades and the Biscayne Bay.
Hialeah has a total area of 19.7 sq mi with almost all of it comprised of land (only 0.5 sq mi is water). The city has a rich history with the opening of the so-called Grand Dame - the Hialeah Park - as a horse track being the most covered sporting event of that time.
Being located in the center of Northwest Dade, Hialeah is one of the most accessible cities - evidenced also by its first slogan, "All ways lead to Hialeah". Aside from roads, rails also provide access to the city and connect the people to the airports.
