Hilo is a town in Hawaii in the United States. Among the islands of Hawaii, Hilo has the largest settlement of the state. The town is also the county seat of the county in the state of Hawaii. It is also where the University of Hawaii at Hilo is located, together with other private and public schools.
The town has a great view of the Hilo Bay and is close to two volcanoes namely Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. Mauna Loa is a dormant volcano where some of the best observatories have been constructed. Apart from its great view, the festivities help give the town its charm and grace. One of the said festivals is the Merrie Monarch Festival. This festival consists of week-long celebrations that involve the art of ancient and modern hula. This takes place every year after Easter.
Despite being on the islands, Hilo is known to be the home of the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Corporation. This company is one of the leading producers of macadamia nuts all over the world. Although traces of archaeological evidence is not that much, there is enough proof to show that people have been inhabiting the coastal areas way before foreigners have made contact.
