Hollywood is a district in LA, California, USA. Much of the movie industry started out in the district so that the word "Hollywood" is synonymous to the fun and glitter associated with the fame and fortune of the rich and popular movie stars and persons. Although much has changed in the course of time - other districts are supporting the movie industry - this district continues to be the one associated with fame.
Among the popular tourist destinations in Hollywood include the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Charlie Chaplin Studios, Crossroads of the World, Griffith Park, Hollywood Heritage Museum, the Hollywood sign, Hollywood Wax Museum, Paramount Studios, Ripley's Believe or Not! Odditorium, the Laugh Factory, the Universal Studios, and the Magic Castle.
Among the special events that draw a lot of tourists into the area are the annual Hollywood Christmas Parade and the CINECON Classic Film Festival and Exposition. There are also several schools that belong under the Los Angeles Unified School District.
