It is ranked as a world city because of its contribution to business, energy, manufacturing, aeronautics, and healthcare. It is also the leading builder of oilfield equipment and is home to a multi-cultural population.

The city's skyline has a mixture of mid-rise and high-rise buildings and is ranked as the third tallest and the fourth most impressive skyline in the United States. The city has an intricate system of skywalks and tunnels that links downtown buildings and contains shops, convenience stores and restaurants.

One of the city's most famous tourist destinations is the Space Center Houston, which is the official visitor's center for NASA. Guests of the Space Center can find interactive exhibits and displays that contain moon rocks. Presentations that deal with NASA's history can also be found in the center. The entertainment destination for Houston is the Bayou Place located in the Theater District. Concerts, stage plays and other events are usually conducted at the Houston Verizon Wireless Theater.
