Huntsville is a town located in the Muskoka Region in the Canadian province of Ontario. It was settled in 1869 by Captain George Hunt, for which the town was named after. It was incorporated as a town in 1886. As of a 2006 census, the area has a population of 18,280 people.
During the late 19th Huntsville served as an important industrial area for Ontario. Sawmills, shingle mills, a tannery, and planning mills were established in the town. Today, the area is more of a tourist destination than it is an industrial hub. Major employers in the area include Deerhurst Resort and Kimberly Clark. The G8 meeting of 2008 will be held in Huntsville and it will be chaired by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
Hockey is a popular sport in the town and it is the hometown of legendary sports figures such as Jack Bionda. A Lacrosse team, the Huntsville Hawks, make the borough their home.
