Ibiza is town on an island in the Mediterranean Sea approximately 80 kilometers from Spain's coastal area. On the island, there are three cities including Ibiza, Sant Antoni de Portmany, and Santa Eularia des Riu. Although Ibiza is the more popular name of the city, it is known as "Eivissa" which is the official Catalan name of the city. Ibiza is the Spanish version of the name, pronounced with a Spanish variation.
If anything, Ibiza is notorious for its fun party life starting with summer club parties. These parties are usually the reason why numerous people flock to Ibiza. However, the Spanish Tourist Office has made a huge effort to rid Ibiza of its image of "sex and alcohol". This is a step towards the country's goal of promoting a more family friendly appeal.
Some of the well known clubs in Ibiza include: Pacha, Space, Amnesia, Privilege, Eden, DC10, Es Paradis, and the ever so popular Café Del Mar.
While Catalan and Spanish are the frequently used languages in Ibiza, English and other languages are also spoken due to the number of expatriates who have chosen to make Ibiza their homes.
