About Indio
Indio is a city in California, USA; it belongs to the Riverside County in the Coachella Valley. The name of the city was derived from the Spanish term for "Indian" - "indio". It has a total land area of 26.7 sq mi with no water formation.

Located halfway between Yuma (Arizona) and Los Angeles, Indio was naturally the right place for a railroad to be built. A construction boss, A.G. Tingman, laid out the town and became its first postmaster and storekeeper. The railroad tycoon and millionaire Henry E. Huntington also funded this town. Even to this day, the original rail corridor is still being used.

Due to the railroads, Indio flourished and became a modernized city. The economy changed from being agricultural to industrial and tourist-based. Numerous attractions (Indio Hills Palms, Joshua Tree National Park) and festivals (Indio International Tamale Festival, Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, etc.) keep the city brimming with tourists - due to this, the city is also called as "The City of Festivals".
