About Jamaica
Jamaica is a large neighborhood located in New York, New York, USA. It started through Dutch rule as "Rustdorp". It later became part of the Town of Jamaica which was dissolved in 1898. The town lost its use of "Jamaica" as name but the neighborhood had regained its count seat and was kept named as "Jamaica". Extensive networks of transportation are to be found in the city along with large streets and highways that include the Jamaica Avenue, Sutphin Boulevard, and the Hillside Avenue.

Jamaica was named after the native Americans who lived along the Jamaica Bay and from whom the name "Jamaica" - which means "beaver" was taken. This means that the inhabitants are not in any way related to those from the country, Jamaica.

There are several notable residents from Jamaica including the holder of the most number of Guiness World Records - Ashrita Furman who had 88 world records.
