About Jekyll Island
Jekyll Island is located off the coast of the US state of Georgia, in Glynn County. The island is one of the Sea Islands and part of the Golden Isles of Georgia. Nearby areas include the city of Brunswick, Georgia, the Marshes of Glynn and the larger St. Simons Island. Many vacationers flock to Jekyll Island for the beach, the wildlife and the rich history and culture.

Jekyll Island was once the Native American settlement of the chiefdom called Guale in the mid 2nd millennium. In 1733, Georgia was established as a colony by General James Oglethorpe and Jekyll Island was named after Oglethorpe's friend, Sir Joseph Jekyll. In 1950, the Jekyll Island Authority was created and a convict camp placed on the island so that prisoners can ready the island for public use.

After going through many developments, Jekyll Island is frequented by vacationers from all over. The beaches are usually their first destination. However, there are a lot of activities Jekyll Island has to offer to explore the great outdoors such as Bike trails, walks along the beaches and sandbars, a water park called the Summer Waves. Wildlife is also full on the island with different species of mammals and reptiles all surviving in the island's inland marshes. Tourists can also experience centuries of history on Jekyll Island by going to the island's historic districts, museums, and visiting several historical preservations.
