
Kailua Kona is a city in Hawaii, United States and belongs to the North Kona District of the island of Hawaii. Kailua Kona is the center of the tourist industry and of commerce on West Hawaii and is home to the Kona International Airport.
Kailua Kona or Kona as referred to by some in everyday speech is the site of the annual Ironman World Championship triathlon and also of the Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament. It is famous for the Kona coffee which is a variety of the Coffee Arabica that is grown on the slopes of Mauna Loa and Mouint Hualalai in the South and North Kona Districts.
The Kailua pier is the starting and finishing points of the Ironman World Championship and is also a perfect spot to watch the scenic view of the typical Hawaiian sunset. There are royal residences in the area such as the Kamakahonu royal residence and the Ahu'ena Heiau. Another royal residence that was used by the Hawaiian royal family is the Hulihe'e Palace until 1914.
